Packaging Formats

Depending on the product and application, a range of packaging solutions is available.

PET containers are a proven and cost-effective solution for many food supplements. They are lightweight, versatile and available in a range of sizes. HDPE offers a particularly robust and functional alternative.

For liquid products, PET and glass bottles are available. Glass is particularly suitable for high-quality oils and liquid products supplied in amber glass dropper bottles. PET bottles, on the other hand, combine low weight with practicality and ease of handling

Doypacks are particularly suitable for powders, herbs, teas and other free-flowing products. They also offer a wide range of design and printing options.

Selecting the Right Packaging

The right packaging for a product depends on more than just its appearance. Key factors include the properties of the product itself, the required barrier properties, fill quantity, shelf life and manufacturing process.

Factors such as sensitivity to light, moisture or oxygen, the transport route, handling requirements and the target market can also influence the choice of packaging.  

We consider these factors together and tailor the packaging to the specific product concept. This enables us to combine product protection, functionality, brand presentation and practical production requirements.

Material Selection and Regulatory Requirements

Depending on the application, a range of materials can be used, including PET, HDPE, PP, glass, paper and aluminium, as well as PCR and recycled plastics.

For materials intended to come into contact with food, the applicable EU requirements must be observed. An important basis for this is Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 and the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice. For plastic packaging and recycled plastics intended to come into contact with food, additional specific requirements under Regulations (EU) No 10/2011 and No 2022/1616 apply.

We take these requirements into account from the outset when selecting and evaluating suitable packaging materials.


Doypacks: Malerial Composition, Barrier Properties and Printing

For doypacks, material composition and barrier properties are just as important as appearance. Depending on the product, composite materials with suitable barrier properties may be required.

For printed paper and plastic packaging, the materials and printing inks used must also be suitable for their intended purpose.

For contract manufacturers, this means that printed packaging must not only be visually appealing, but also technically suitable and compliant with applicable regulations. Key considerations include barrier properties, material composition, compatibility with the product and reliable processing during production.

Closure, Sealing and Tamper Protection

There are various options for closure and sealing, depending on the product, packaging format and distribution channel. These include:

  • IHS liners 

  • PS or pressure-seal solutions

  • Tamper-evident closures with a tear-off ring

  • Shrink sleeves

  • Heat-sealed doypacks

IHS stands for an inductively sealed aluminium liner that is bonded to the container after filling and sealing.

PS or pressure-seal solutions use a sealing disc in the lid that is pressed onto the container opening during sealing. They provide a reliable seal and help protect the product from external influences.

For liquid products or high-quality glass packaging, tamper-evident closures with a tear-off ring can be a suitable solution. With doypacks, tamper protection is generally achieved by heat-sealing the pouch.
